New Year, New Look
Experience the New Guangzhou Office!

After over a year of planning and preparation, the British Council South China team finally moved in to their new home on 21 Jan 2008!

The new office is in the heart of Tianhe district - Guangzhou CBD. Situated in the newly finished Teem Tower, we are now in the heart of Guangzhou¡¯s business, sporting and shopping centre.

With great public transport links from the Tiyu Xi Lu Metro station right underneath our building, our location will make it easier for people to reach us, and easier for us to get out and meet our partners.

For information of UK education, arts, culture, and science, please visit us at 7th Floor, Teem Tower, 208 Tianhe Road Guangzhou,China

New Look
  • The lively information centre has all the information you need about studying in the UK, from UK university brochures to accommodation information. As well as printed material, we have free access to a wide range of online resources in a comfortable and informal setting.

  • Our casual meeting area is filled with furniture from different corners of the world. We¡¯ve tried to make a space that helps people be creative, and helps give the feeling that we¡¯re not just another office, but a cultural relations organisation.

  • As part of our green office programme, we have installed two large LED electricity meters to monitor the air temperature, humidity and usage of electricity in the office. You¡¯ll find them in our information centre and back office, reminding staff and visitors of how much energy we are using at any time, and ensuring we keep to our commitment to not cooling the office below 26 degrees.

  • Our back office furniture was purchased from manufacturers in China who have clear energy-saving policies, reducing carbon in production and transportation.
  • Flexible Working
  • We believe cultural relations is about working together, and getting around South China meeting people and setting up links with the UK. As a result our new office has more casual meeting space, but fewer working desks and no private offices at all. In fact we have fewer desks than we have staff members, because we know that to be effective many of our staff will be out of the office much the time.

  • In the new office all staff (including our Director) are using the booking board to choose where they sit in the office each time they arrive.. People get the chance to sit in different places with different people every time they are in the office.

  • Each member of staff has a storage box, which was decorated and personalised with the help of students from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. So whatever desk they are working at, they can make it personal because of the unique design of the storage box.

  • Our new telephone system supports flexible working. Each staff member in Guangzhou is now assigned a direct telephone number, and can log in on any phone in the office., This number can be directed to their mobile or home if they¡¯re working outside the office too, so staff can always stay in touch when they need to be, wherever they happen to be working.

  • We¡¯re supporting homeworking where it helps people¡¯s work/life balance. With improved technology it¡¯s easy to access e-mail and resources at home, and be reached on your phone, so to help those who find daily commuting difficult, we¡¯re helping staff to be able to work at home on some days of the week.

  • Our office design also demonstrates the flexible style. Our Multi-function room can easily be transformed to fit our different needs of meeting, event, and training by moving sliding panels.
